What it can look like
A few of the looks you can make - live, as they'd show in OBS, playing made-up songs. Layout, colours, font, progress bar, cover motion and more are yours to pick, and songs with a Spotify Canvas can show its looping video.
First time? Make your own Spotify appFree, about 2 minutes, once
Spotify only lets an app be used by accounts its owner adds by hand, so your overlay runs through an app of your own, and only you use it.
- Open the Spotify developer dashboard and log in with the Spotify account you play music on. Accept the terms if it asks.
- Click Create app. Name and description can be anything, e.g. "My stream overlay".
- Under Redirect URIs, paste this and click Add:
- Under Which API/SDKs are you planning to use? tick Web API, accept the terms and click Save.
- On the app's page, copy the Client ID and paste it above. The client secret isn't needed - don't share it.
Spotify shows an error?
- INVALID_CLIENT: Invalid redirect URI - the Redirect URI in your app's settings must be exactly the one in the guide above.
- INVALID_CLIENT: Invalid client - the Client ID is wrong, or the app was deleted.
- Didn't let this account use your app - sign in with the Spotify account that made the app, or add the account under User Management in the app's settings.
